Gmail displays a number of advertisements in the message area. One such ad (Gmail called them are Web Clips) occupies top your inbox and it looks like menu items. (See screen shots below for clarification).
If you don’t like these web clips or ads, you can simply disable them from the Gmail Settings menu.

To disable the top ads, Open your Gmail and go to ‘Settings’ menu.
Now select ‘Web Clips’ and uncheck the option ‘Show my web clips above the Inbox’
